Frankfurt, October 2011 – Golf legend Mike Calbot will make his way from the U.S. to the land of the Pharaos in order to join the Egypt Golf Trophy Finals, which are carried out from 01st until 08th of December in Soma Bay at the Red Sea and in Luxor in the Nile Valley. The famous „Golf Doctor“ has been invited to be special guest at the Egypt Golf Trophy Finals 2011, which leads the participants of 8 qualifying rounds in prestigious golf clubs all over Germany to Egypt to play the final tournament. Pharaonic Fairways and world class golf trick shots make an unrivalled combination for the Egypt Golf Trophy Finals which are organised by the Tourism Department of the Consulate General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Germany. The Trophy is an annual event that has been organized for four consecutive years. Mike Calbot, golf luminary of the first hour from the U.S., host of the instructional TV series entitled "The Golf Doctor” which ran for 32 years, owner and operator of The Mike Calbot International Golf Studio and TRIAD Golf Schools established in 1978, is a world-travelling Golf Trick Shot Artist, professional golf instructor, author and public speaker. The Swing Analyst stops over in Egypt in December to join the finalists in the luxury Red Sea destination Soma Bay which boosts a multiply rewarded Gary Player designed Championship Course, The Cascades, ranked as Number 1 golf course in the world outside of Europe by the readers of "Golf Journal." It is here, where superstar Calbot shows his artistic trick shots live in front of the golfers and assembled press, before heading to Luxor, at the mystical Nile river, where historical rounds will be played in front of the greatest treasures of the ancient word. Golf in EgyptGolf in Egypt is a hundred year old tradition since the Gezira Sporting Club and the famous Mena House Golf course near the Giza pyramids first opened in the late 1800’s. By the 1950’s, there were seven world class golf courses in Egypt. Golf declined and most of these courses disappeared with the changing political climate: only Mena House (under renovation), the Alexandria Sporting Club and Gezira survived the changes.
Luckily, golf in Egypt has experienced a tremendous boom over the last decade. All in all, there are 20 top-scale operational golf courses in Egypt’s major cities and European golf competitions have included Egypt among world-class golf destinations. |
