“Designing a golf course is my total expression. My golf game can only go on so long. But what I have learned can be put into a piece of ground, and that will last beond me.”
– Jack Nicklaus
Newly opened, Old Corkscrew Golf Club has already been named a great
success by Southwest Florida golfers, locals and visitors to this
unique course and club.
Approximately seven miles east of I-75 on Corkscrew Road in Estero, the
275-acre site is not affi liated with any real estate development. This
stand-alone Jack Nicklaus Signature Course provides an outstanding golf
experience.
Nicklaus–Designed...
Jack Nicklaus’ dedication and ingenuity has enhanced hundreds of
spectacular courses worldwide. But in Lee County, Southwest Florida,
only Old Corkscrew Golf Club is highlighted by that incredible
designation – Jack Nicklaus Signature. Nicklaus Design Group (based in
Palm Beach) has worked hand-in-hand with Old Corkscrew’s management to
enhance the natural environment and create a course that is both
challenging and enjoyable for players of all levels.
The par-72 Championship layout plays 7,400 yards and meets the highest design criteria. Each Nicklaus-designed course in unique but certain aspects are present in all of them. Th ey are well-balanced with holes that vary in direction, look and feel, so that one type of golfer isn’t favored over another. A believer that golf is a game of precision over power, the Nicklaus Design Group plans courses that reward strategic, intelligent thinking as much as fi ne ball striking. Another priority is to design holes that enable golfers to make careful decisions in club selection and execution of each shot.
The first players have commented that they appreciate the social aspects at Old Corkscrew – gracefully varied topography and a spacious layout create easy groupings of golfers who can get together on the course, watch each other play, and enjoy a sense of camaraderie.
Audubon-certified Natural Setting...
Those who take pleasure in a fantastic golf course understand that it is more than the game that makes the day complete – it is the quality of the setting. And at Old Corkscrew Golf Club, Florida’s natural beauty comes to life, adding an extra dimension to the golf experience.
Certified with the Audubon seal of approval, Old Corkscrew Golf Club’s location still reflects its original natural setting, complete with stands of cypress, magnifi cently tall pines, mature oaks and nesting colonies of wood storks, egrets and herons, just to name a few.
Valuing wildlife and natural habitats as much as they value the game of golf, Old Corkscrew’s management team is committed to preserving and enhancing the environment. Audubon International is an environmental educational organization that focuses on sustainable development. Fewer than two percent of courses around the world have been named a Certifi ed Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
