Designed by acclaimed golf course architect Ron Garl, this 18-hole, par 72 course is routed through lush nature preserves and measures 7,013 yards from the tips. Devilish white sand waste bunkers sprinkled with tufts of cord grass border quite a few fairways and guard many pins. This is definitely a shot makers course; but still, the average golfer playing from the forward tees often has a good chance to par many holes. The 420-yard par-4 first at Crown Colony offers golfers a hint at what is to come. Golfers are met with a generous landing area. Bunkers on the right don’t necessarily come into play. It’s a fun way to ease into what will be a challenging round. The eithth and ninth at Crown Colony are sure to become the favorite holes of average golfers. Wide-open fairways provide lots of room off the tee, and a makeable second or third shot at a forgiving green. Drama is the operative word on the par-4, 355-yard 10th. From the back tees, players see the picturesque finger sand bunker. Low handicappers must carry water and sand to find the fairway. Ladies and those playing from the forward tees see the hole from a different perspective but have a good chance to make the fairway.
The 14th at Crown Colony may be the most exquisite of them all. It is also the longest par-3 on the course. Perched on the edge of a natural wetland, the hole is surrounded by cypress and nature preserves teeming with wildlife. The finishing hole at Crown Colony is a long par-5 bisected by a creek. The home hole’s wide fairway provides views of the lovely, upscale Crown Colony clubhouse. A ParView GPS system on every cart makes calculating yardage a breeze. The turf grass used on the course is in itself a golf innovation – a salt-resistant Paspalum that is environmentally friendly and stays a deep green color in almost any weather condition. But perhaps most of all, the Paspalum makes for a highly playable surface, especially on the fairways where balls sit up and players can take a nice divot. A 403-acre master-planned community under development by the Naples/Ft. Myers division of Centex Homes, Crown Colony Golf & Country Club features homes to fit every lifestyle. Luxury carriage homes, single-family homes and estate homes are priced from the low $200,000s to the $400,000s. Limited non-resident full golf and annual memberships are currently available. Crown Colony Golf & Country Club is located south of Summerlin Road on Winkler Road in South Fort Myers. For more information and to reserve your tee time, call (239) 590-9860
